Biography

My name is Demetrius Apostolis and I am honored to serve as your Vice President for the 2023-2024 school year. Originally from a small town in New Jersey called Flemington, I lived with my mom and two younger siblings. While in NJ, I worked as the training manager at a restaurant, overseeing 20 employees. I am also the founder of a drone photography company, where I demonstrated my passion for video editing, drone piloting, and serving aerial photography needs to clients.

Since high school, I have had a passion for GW, attending a summer program here in 2019. Since being accepted, I have been heavily involved in our school community, being a member of various organizations and pushing school spirit by participating as a staff member for GW Palooza.

My passion for GW is further driven by all this community has provided for me. GW was the first place where I found my community and felt comfortable expressing my sexuality as a gay man. It has been the place where I have formed friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime, and I have been shown how amazing a sense of community can be. I am excited to continue my work of helping every GW student find their sense of community, just like I did.

Last year, I had the privilege of serving as your SGA Senate Chairperson Pro Tempore. In this role, I chaired our Governance and Nominations Committee, Governing Documents Review Committee, LGBTQ+ Resource Group, and SA Dining Focus Group. Additionally, I am proud to have started our annual Career Exploration Expo, which immersed students in career exploration, with everything from panels to a career fair with over 80 employers. I am excited to continue to grow this event in the upcoming school year.

As your Vice President, I will continue the work we accomplished during my time as Senate Pro Tempore, but with more innovation and impact. Some of the improvements already in the process include expanding the U-Pass program to include part-time graduate students and summer sessions, reforming our overwhelmed advising system so that students don't have to wait for months to meet with their advisors, making our financial allocations process more transparent, and advocating for better dining options, including the development of a meal-swipe based campus grocery store. These policies are just the beginning of the improvements I plan to achieve this year.

Student voices are the hallmark of making change, and I am eager to help elevate student voices here at GW. The Student Government Association is meant to serve all students and have a connection with all in our community. As your Vice President, I promise to help create a bond in which every student feels represented by their student government. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns, or if you just want to talk.

Together, "We are just getting started!"
